Video Feedback on Assignments

With our implementation of Kaltura (the new video creation and management tool that integrates with Moodle) has emerged the ability to include video feedback on assignments. Instead of typing a lot of comments that may or may not be read, you can now use Kaltura to shoot a brief (~2 minute) video response to submitted assignments.

Check out our Moodle test space to see how it works.

Short directions, for you to refer to later:

  • Ensure you have “Feedback Comments” enabled on the assignment.
  • In the “Feedback Comments” section in the Grading area, click the Kaltura logo (it looks like a little rainbow starburst).
  • Click on “Add New” and select “Express Capture.”
  • Click the red button to record, and the square button to stop. You have about two minutes.
  • If you want to rerecord, use the “Record Again” button. When you’re happy with your video, click “Use This.”
  • Select “Save and Embed.”
  • Allow the video to process. It may take a few minutes. Click “Refresh” to check.
  • Select “Embed.”

When you return to the assignment, you’ll see a link in your Feedback box. It doesn’t look like much, but students will see the video embedded when they see their grade. You can also see your feedback embedded in the gradebook when you look at an individual assignment.
